Over the years we have spoken to a lot of people and heard a plethora of reasons as to why they are giving up their dog, strange reasons for why they want a Rott, how they define a German Rottweiler and their views on spaying and neutering. We thought we would share some of these realistic, amusing and sad comments. |
Why do you want a Rott or why do you want a rottie pup vs. an older dog?
We have small children and a puppy would be better for them.
We want a puppy so it can grow up with the children.
Puppies are easier to train.
An adult dog is easier to train.
We want a Rott for protection.
We never had one before and 'heard' they are good dogs.
I like the look.
I want a big dog.
I want a pet that 'looks mean'.
Why do you need to give up your dog?
Can no longer take care of it.
Too large.
Too small
Allergies.
Moving and cannot take dog with.
Moving to no pet apartment.
I'm pregnant and can't keep dog.
Getting divorced.
Getting remarried.

Dog too passive.
Dog too aggressive.
Kids are too rough with the dog.
Bought a new house and the house is too big.
Installed white or light colored carpeting.
House is too small.
We have had the dog for 8 years and our current lifestyle does not permit us to spend as much time with it.
Didn't know we would have to take the dog to training.
Have kept the dog in an outside run and the neighbors are complaining about the barking.
Not home enough to spend enough time with the dog.
We have a newborn and are now afraid of the dog.
We got another dog and don't want this one anymore.
Have had the dog since a pup but now they have children in the family and are afraid the dog will knock them down. (This particular family had already purchased two puppies of another breed.) |
