HOW TO FIND A VET

Did you know that choosing a veterinarian for your pet is as important as choosing a physician for your own health care? So before you take your pet to the veterinarian on the corner why not consider the following.
The first step is choosing a veterinarian should be to determine which services are most important to you, for example, emergency care, grooming, boarding or extended hours. Cost is another big factor.
Ask neighbors or co-workers about their veterinarians. Do not be afraid to ask for recommendations or to ask why. Other good sources of information are cat or dog clubs, humane societies and reputable breeders.
Once your list is narrowed down, phone the clinics and ask them about their staff, services,
fees and hours. Or visit the clinics of interest. Request a tour of the facilities. Keep in mind that a hospital should be clean to the eye and the nose and that all staff members should be friendly and professional.
Most importantly, you should be sure that you are comfortable with your veterinarian. This person should be someone with whom you can develop a personal client/veterinarian relationship and who will take time to answer your questions about your pet's health.
Remember, routine veterinary examinations and vaccinations are a form of insurance to prevent your pet from encountering avoidable health problems. It's a good idea to find a veterinarian you are satisfied with and trust before your pet needs emergency assistance.
