UPDATE 11/02/03: Earlier in October, friends from ADOPT (Naperville,IL) were visiting one of the local animal controls, when they came across a sweet Rottie girl who was obviously in a family way. She had come in as a stray and was still on hold just in case her owner came to claim her. When they returned a few days later, on October 16, she was still there, but now her time was up. Her release was obtained and home she came to Recycled Rotts.
Her foster mom named her MIA, or even better MAMA MIA.
A visit to our vet confirmed that MIA was very close to delivering her pups, and the xray showed that there were quite a few of them. She was then brought back to her foster mom’s home where she was given her own private room with plenty of space to whelp her babies.
Early Sunday morning, October 26, MIA gave birth to 10 healthy pups – 6 girls and 4 boys. What a bunch of cuties, even if they are not pure rotties. The one big boy, who has a very brown coat, has been named MEATBALL. MIA is a good mom and is taking excellent care for her pups.
As the pups grow, updates and more photos will be added to this page. If anyone is interested in adopting either Mia or one of her babies, applications will be taken but the pups will not be ready for placement until early January. Mia, too, will not be able to be placed until her little ones are fully weaned and ready to face the world on their own. Please note that even though MIA is a pure rottie her babies are not and it is still too early to predict what is mixed in their gene pool.
